A Critique of Jean-Luc Goddard (2021)
Collaborative work with Detroit painter, Betty Brownlee, created for the Dual Visions exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit.
Photography by Brian Rozman.
For this large scale installation, Betty Brownlee and Cristin Ríchard dissected many of Godard's films from the 1960s. Together they sat through each movie, individually noting the critical scenes, words, colors, and content. In their discussions, they discovered the overlap of what they were both drawn to and also found many parallels to modern society .
The resulting installation was a way to communicate their introspective cinematic experience and extrovert it through a combination of their own mediums. Deeply rooted in process, it was a true intersection of Brownlee and Ríchard’s visions.
