  • Endangered Species (2022)

    Photography by Marvin Shaouni.

    Found Object, Nutria Pelts.

Reflecting upon the way we obtain information, the sensation of holding the weight and turning the page has now been replaced with the screen. Instead of obtaining information on one’s own, it is filtered for us through search engines. Social media has us jumping from one bite of information to the next, without fully digesting the depth of the story at hand. All the while, we are influenced and bombarded with the opinions and thoughts of others before we make up our own mind.

This series of fifty pieces, juxtaposes books with the fur of an invasive species. Both are plentiful, however physical books may face extinction in the near future.

Each found book was selected for its paper quality and its title. The titles reflect a human centric theme or a spiritual theme. “In Due Time,” “The Chance Awakening,” and “The Living Stage” were a few of the titles included. Each book was bound with Nutria pelts, in various colors and lengths of fur.
